Just like moving houses, redoing your workspace is never a simple task. Although it seems like any time of the year would not be ideal, there are perks present in certain seasons that may make you want to take the leap and start on your new space. Let’s look at the pros and cons of each season for office renovations.
Pro- Cooler weather
Working through obstacles is a lot easier when it’s not brutally hot outside. Since moving can come with adjustments to working hours, the office environment, and the overall feel of the space, not having to worry about the brutal heat is refreshing. People will naturally be more relaxed and more ready to adapt as changes come their way.
Con- Lack of focus
Spring break is strategically placed for a reason. The spring season brings a lot of movement, whether that be with allergies or outdoor activities, it’s no secret that people love to get up and get out during the spring. This could be a pro or a con, depending on your organization.
Pro- Longer days
The summer season is home to the longest days of the year. Offering the most sunlight, this bright time of the year is great for getting things done. This is typically when businesses are in the full swing of things and able to dedicate time to needed projects that have been put on the back burner.
Con- Warmer weather
Depending on where you are located, this could be a pro or a huge con. Triple-digit weather can be a con during a big office move, but with the right plan in place, you can certainly make it happen in the summer season.
Pro- Temperate weather
On the flip side of warmer weather, there’s the nice temperate weather of the fall. With fewer allergies and cooler temperatures, this time of year really is great for getting out.
Con- End of the year
Although the fall is a lovely time of year, the changing leaves mark the coming end of the fiscal year. Even though this isn’t a problem for most projects, some who operate on a strict schedule year to year may opt to sit out this season for renovations.
Pro- Good moods
The holiday spirits are strong this time of year. Cooler weather, family time, and festivities are all great reasons for an increase in cheer amongst your team – something that can be helpful during renovations.
With all of the festivities mentioned above mixed with the approaching end of the year, this is the season with the most time off in the working world. Not only are there most holidays this time of year but there are also a lot of people opting to use PTO in the winter months.
Even though there’s a lot to consider when renovating your office space, you cannot go wrong with the timing that works for your team. Although there may be times of the year that seem better or worse for a move, the reality is our industry sees projects of all sorts of sizes all year long. The worst thing you can do though is to overthink it and wait – the sooner you get started the better when it comes to major updates!
